How To Promote Your Event Using This Site
It's pretty simple to create an event with us but you do need to know a few things before starting so here are a few tips for you to think about whilst creating your entry. Through getting people to engage with and enthuse about what it is that you are doing, you are more likely to see bigger attendances at your offline events. The following tips and information should help you to make the most of the opportunity and deliver the most impact for advertising the event online that you are seeking to promote with us. We'd love to know what you think so do please let us know
Creating your Event Listing
- Identify the location of your event - First off you need to identify the town where your event is to be held. You then click on the link that best fits your town and country and fill in the details on the form presented to you.
- Event Name (title)- Be sure to use a name for your event that people are going to search for - 'Children's Fun Day Fund Raiser Event' is a whole lot better than 'Charity Event' . Another example might be for a shopping event; 'Half Price Super Shopping Extravaganza in Location' will again be a whole lot more useful and compelling than an event name that just said 'Shopping Event Location'. Try and draw people in by exciting them with your proposition.

- Event Location Details - The event location and postcode is fundamental in getting an accurate map and getting people to see your event. Be sure to put in the address to somewhere like Google maps to see if the location you are using has an accurate map. Also ensure that your event has an accurate postcode. We try to use this where we don't have a fully accurate address.
- Event Directions - If you know an easy way to get to your event, then help your visitors by providing easy to understand directions from the nearest public transport or road options.
- Event Description - This is your opportunity to really sell what your event is all about. Use unique compelling language to convey your message, cut and paste is not the way to go at all. We will remove abuses of other peoples content where this is identified.
On the upside, try to use language that is fun and engaging, appeal to your audience, list the benefits of attending, tell them about the fun aspects of your event, or tell them how they'll be helping that great cause that you care so passionately about. Appeal to their humanity, their sense of fun, their sense of generosity. Appeal to your constituency! If you are a running a wedding event, then tell brides and grooms why exactly your event is so special and give reasons for why they should attend.
- Event Prices, Dates and Admission Times -Be sure to check that the details submitted are as accurate and informative as possible. Check and double check these before you hit the submit button!
- Contact Details - People may have pre event questions. Where possible provide a contact name and telephone number, or a direct link to a web address containing the same. Take the leg work out of things for people and make it simple.
- Relevant Hashtag - If your brand or event has a special hashtag, then be sure to enter it into the hashtag field. This will help us pull in relevant content that discusses your event and help keep it fresh and engaging for visitors landing on your events page. If people see that your event has a lot of interest around the hashtag then they may be more inclined to get involved too.
- Social Media - The web provides for an extensive array of social networks that make it relatively easy to broadcast your message to your followers. A good Tweet or facebook status can for example, quickly generate interest through reaching lots of people in a relatively short time frame. Retweets and Facebook shares are an excellent example of this in practice.
In this regard we can help you in a number of ways. We will tweet your entry to our network and share it to our facebook page.
- Add an Image to your entry - Make your event stand out with a fresh and vibrant image that conveys what your event is about. All we ask is that you ensure that you have the rights to use the image and seek permission where you're unsure.
Promote your event using Twitter
Using your Twitter account
If you sign in with your twitter account, you can also share your entry with your very own network, thus doubling the immediate impact of your submission. This happens automatically and will create a tweet that gives your followers a link to the event and a relevant hashtag for the location.
Get your friends and followers to comment and express whether they're attending
You can also ask your friends to place comments on your entry, and of course ask them to reshare your event with their friends. Visitors to your event page, can leave comments and let people know that they are attending. Again, if they are on Twitter then through doing so, they'll also tell their friends and followers!
Here is an example showing how that works.

Through getting comments and visitor commitment, you help build a perception of popularity for your event. People like to feel part of popular things, so help your event gain popularity!
Getting Retweets
Here is a recent example showing how retweeting works. You can see how people are 'Retweeting' the @eventsnear account in support of their friends/followers recently created event.

Through getting your event retweeted, you get to amplify your message. Through using relevant hashtags, you also help people who look for things around certain locations, identify your cause.
Using our location pages to advertise your event
Our location pages in addition to user submitted entries, also contain references from people discussing events within that location. You can quickly identify people who are doing this and build additional friendships and allegiances through engaging with them. So long as you are adding genuine value, then you should be received favourably.
It's very simple to do so too, you just hit the button as seen in the graphic below, which will sign you in to your Twitter account. You can then tailor your message to person you are communicating with and tweet directly.
